You may be wondering, “What in the world is a SharkNado and why would I worry about my insurance covering me for it?” Well, a SharkNado is basically what its name implies; it is a shark-filled tornado. Yes, you read that right. However, worrying about your insurance covering a SharkNado is not something you need to spend any time on. It will not happen anytime in the near –or far future.
Last week, the internet blew up over the premiere of the B rated movie entitled ‘SharkNado’ because of its awesome ability to make viewers laugh at the impossibility. The movie started with a tornado conjuring up a huge herd of sharks and depositing them all over Los Angeles in very unrealistic places like swimming pools, living rooms and even major highways. It ended with a Great White shark flying through the air overheard and the main character taking care of it by jumping into its mouth.
While the thought of a SharkNado may have you chuckling at your TV screen, it may also make you wonder about what would happen if a weird storm like that were to occur. Would your insurance cover damages from floods, winds AND shark bites? Would your claim be accepted if you filed for your neighbor’s lost handbag due to it being washed out of your closet and then eaten by a Hammerhead?
Truth be told you do NOT have to worry about a SharkNado. But you can always stand to check over your homeowner’s insurance policy to see what it covers and what it does not. Remember that most standard homeowner’s policies do not cover flood damage. So even without the sharks, you might want to ask for a flood insurance quote if you do not already have flood insurance for your home or business.
