Now that winter is officially over, you might be thinking about getting out of town for a little spring break. Taking a trip can be a great way to clear your head and relax for a little while; get away from it all. Before you make your plans, remember to contact your insurance agent to see how your insurance stands up to anything that could go wrong on your trip.
Of course no one likes to think about lost baggage or their rental car breaking down or anyone getting sick during vacation. But the unfortunate truth is that some of those things could happen while you are away. It’s better to think of how you would handle any problems right now before you go so that you can enjoy your time away without worry.
If you have a homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy, most of your belongings will most likely be covered. However there are some things that you might want to reconsider when packing up your suitcase. Certain possessions only warrant a small amount from your insurance policy if you file a claim. Jewelry for example has a limit that may not be the full value of the piece you file a claim on. It is worth checking before you pack it away.
If you are traveling to another country, check with your agent to see if your current insurance will still cover you when you are out of the United States. Some cases it may, but others may require you to purchase additional coverage when you get to the foreign country. Car insurance is one of those items that may need to be purchased separately when you get to your destination.
We hope you have a wonderful time on your spring break. Give us a call with any of your concerns and questions about insurance for your trip. We are happy to help you!
