Colorado Health Insurers Putting an End to Child-Only Policies

September 9, 2010 By

Parents in Colorado listen up! There are some health insurance companies in Colorado that will be putting an end to child-only policies. These policies, which typically hold lower premiums, will be halted by at least 5 insurance companies in Colorado.

According to the Denver Business Journal, Humana Insurance Company, Aetna Life Insurance Company, Cigna Corporation, UnitedHealthcare, and Assurant Health will stop selling child-only health policies in Colorado by October 1, 2010.

The change comes as a result of the soon-to-be instituted federal mandates from healthcare reform that require insurance companies to cover all applicants under the age of 19, regardless of pre-existing medical conditions. Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, child-only health plans are no longer allowed.

Have questions on how this will affect your Colorado health insurance plans? Give the agents of Dagley Insurance & Financial Services a call at 888.840.7995.
